« MILPA » is my graduation project.
The three sisters is an ancestral botanical culture, 6000 years ago, the indians from america invented this technique. By planting and growing three vegetables together, they grow perfectly in simbiosis and create their own eco-system. The three vegetables are corn, butternut and bean.
Inspired by my own two sisters, I imagined a project where each sister could be one of these vegetable. I outlined some similarities between the human sisters and the botanical sisters and graphicly re-interpreted them in a booklet. In this booklet, each human sister has her identity (typography, symbol and type of paper).
The binding was designed with three threads, representing the three sisters. The combination creates a pattern that inspired me for the typography « Milpa ».
Each glasshouse contains the booklet (recipes, historical facts, personal facts, botanical anecdotes and growing guide), three pots, three small bags of soil and individual bags with seeds in it.
